Govt. U.P School, Ponmudi - Students

We had visited the school in 2018 for a campaign to distribute sweaters for students and to celebrate Children’s Day with the students. The school is located in Ponmudi and is usually affected by bad weather conditions and residents find it difficult to travel and children suffer as well, to attend school.

After the 2018 event and further social media campaigns, much change has happened to the school. Vamanapuram MLA - D.K Murali has taken initiative and renovated the school building, and a new school van has been alloted to the school from the MLA fund. This is a great help for students. We thank everyone who supported us in our campaigns.

On the way to Govt. U.P School, Ponmudi

We are currently raising funds for issuing ID cards for all the students of the school.

Further initiatives are being planned in the school, and we hope all our well wishers will support these initiatives whole heartedly and contribute to support education of the students.

Further initiatives that are being planned -

  1. Help in building a compound wall - As the school is located in the forest area, the students still face threat from wild animals from the surrounding areas. The school is planning to build a compound wall to prevent this problem.

  2. Renovating the library - The library which is used by the students - is located in Ponmudi Estate. There is a plan to renovate the library and allocate a librarian as contract staff.

  3. Support for contract staff - The school currently has only one full time staff allocated by the Government. All others are contract staff hired by the school for various purposes - including the driver of the new school van, and they are supported by the teachers, and families around the school. Some financial contribution can help ease this burden on the teachers.

We hope for your support to make these initiatives a huge success.

As Benjamin Franklin once said “An investment in knowledge pays the best interest.”. The students of these remote villages are trying their best to get the light of education fighting against all odds. Any help from our side will go a long way.
